A luthier is a fabricator of instruments. They specialize in making instruments from raw materials and can construct beautiful pieces of art of high quality. As they typically are found in remote areas and have a laid back standard of living, it can be challenging to trust some. They would sand a bit of the wood, take a break……polish a little here and there….take a nap……overall it can be frustrating for a customer who is anxious to receive their instrument. It is for this reason why we trial who we work with and select only the best. Have a look at some of the excuses made by luthiers who have not made the cut (remember….these are actual situations which really happened!!)
Question: “So what is the status of my cuatro?”
Answer: “Well, it was raining, so I could not paint it.”
Question: “Have you sent my cuatro yet?”
Answer: “Ya know, it was on it’s way but the courier had an accident and lost the address. I will send it tomorrow.”
Question: “Is the cuatro almost finished?”
Answer: “My shop nearly burned down and the case got damaged….so I am still finishing it.”
As you may be able to tell…..this is not the kind of experience you wish to have after spending some good money on something want customized.
